Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO
Wednesday, September 14th, 2016
Brasfield & Gorrie, a firm committed to the best sustainable construction practices, has attained the Platinum level Green Fleet Certification according to the Association of Equipment Management Professionals.
The Green Fleet Platinum Certification recognizes the company for meeting rigorous and exacting sustainability criteria. The certification is just one way AEMP supports mixed fleet managers across the nation, and enables them to demonstrate their commitment to environmental excellence in construction. B&G Equipment and Supply, the equipment division of Brasfield & Gorrie, has more than 600 assets. The fleet is in full compliance with all governmental requirements for emissions.
Stan Orr, president of AEMP, said that “When a company attains AEMP’s Platinum level Green Fleet Certification, they are showing their clients and customers that they know how to walk the walk, not just talk the talk.” Attaining Platinum Certification affirms that Brasfield & Gorrie, a fleet-intensive construction company, deserves its reputation for the best construction practices and how those practices impact the environment. Engineering News-Record ranks Brasfield & Gorrie 29th among the nation’s “Top 400 Contractors” for 2016.
So it’s no surprise that technology and sustainability are two watch words for Brasfield & Gorrie and its clients, according to Marty Hardin, BGES Vice President and General Manager.
“These two things are huge for a company like ours,” Hardin said. “Brasfield & Gorrie aims to deliver the latest in safety and technology to our project teams and customers, which inspired us to focus on fleet sustainability and to pursue the Green Fleet Certification. BGES strives to ensure our fleet stays at the forefront of technology and environmental stewardship, and sustainability, so we find it very satisfying, yet extremely motivating, to reach AEMP’s Platinum in Green Fleet Certification.”
Hardin explained that AEMP’s Green Fleet Certification helps tell the Brasfield & Gorrie story; certification enhances BGES’s regional reputation, brand recognition and standing as a leader within the local community; it provides an effective means to influence other contractors to elevate environmental responsibility as a priority, and helps reduce the company’s carbon footprint. BGES is now working to achieve Equipment Fleet Manager Certification.
Hardin added that “AEMP and its conferences and training events are valuable sources of information, industry trends, model changes, and projected fleet purchases.” Hardin has been with the company 15 years, and the company has been a member of AEMP for three years.
AEMP is the only supporter of fleet managers in the heavy equipment industry, offering professional training on advanced on technology and management techniques, and as critical certification programs.
“Equipment managers are serious, trained professionals, and with increasing regulatory requirement, our Certification program is a way we can support their professionalism, and to help fleet managers tell their story of achieving a better environment for all of us,” said Stan Orr, CAE, AEMP President and CSO. AEMP recognizes a range of green fleet levels and encourages equipment managers to reach for the next rung, Orr explained.
“We are realistic about meeting the needs of equipment managers. AEMP members are committed to environmental improvement, and we want to incentivize and acknowledge companies to take additional steps towards a greener fleet. That’s why we created four levels of certification,” Or said. AEMP offers four defined levels of certification that assist all companies, regardless of size or financial footprint, to realistically achieve Green Fleet status.
“Our goal is to offer recognition and certification to all fleets trying to implement green practices, not just the ones who can afford to take the biggest steps, such as upgrading their entire fleet to Tier IV,” Orr said.
