For the second consecutive year, Kennesaw State’s Fifth Third Bank Stadium has earned the Sports Turf Managers Association “Field of the Year” award.

Opened in 2010, the $16.5 million venue serves as the home of the Owls football, soccer and lacrosse teams, along with the Atlanta Blaze of Major League Lacrosse.

The award is presented annually by the STMA to collegiate, professional and recreational venues based on playability, appearance and utilization of innovative solutions.

Kennesaw State’s field staff is headed by Shane Hohlbein, sports turf manager at Precision Turf. He is joined by Jared Kent and Ben Wolosick.

“We are privileged to provide our student-athletes and coaches with first-class athletic facilities, and playing surfaces that are among the best in the nation,” said Director of Athletics Vaughn Williams. “The staff from Precision Turf work tirelessly to keep the natural grass field at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in outstanding condition. They take great pride in their work, and this award is a reflection of that.”

In addition to KSU Athletics, the stadium’s natural 419 Bermuda grass field hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including club and professional lacrosse, rugby and soccer, concerts and festivals. Fifth Third Bank Stadium is the centerpiece of Kennesaw State University’s Sports and Entertainment Park.
