Gas South received the Business of the Year Award for the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce’s 2017 APEX Business Awards. The annual award program honors businesses for their accomplishments in business development, employee programs and business innovation along with their contributions to DeKalb County and the Metro Atlanta region.

Since the company’s establishment in 2006, Gas South has demonstrated its dedication to positively impacting the communities it serves – including DeKalb County – by building relationships and inspiring philanthropy both within the company and throughout the community.

“One of our highest priorities as a company has been to foster an authentic culture of caring for our customers, our employees and our community,” said Kevin Greiner, a resident of DeKalb County and Gas South president and CEO. “We’re committed to being more than just a natural gas provider – we strive to be a place where employees want to work, a company with which our customers are proud to do business, and a good neighbor to the communities we serve.”

In addition to the volunteer time that Gas South employees devote to year-round community initiatives, the company invests in local nonprofits that serve DeKalb County residents including Action Ministries, the Society of St. Vincent De Paul, Boys and Girls Club, YMCA, Salvation Army, United Way, and H.E.A.T. Through a program with DeKalb County and supplemental voluntary donations, Gas South has contributed approximately $100,000 per year to the DeKalb County Police Alliance to help expand life insurance policies for full-time county, city and school system police officers who lose their lives in the line of duty.

The awards luncheon was held on May 25, 2017, at Georgia Piedmont Technical College. Awards given during the program included Business of the Year, Business Advocacy, Emerging Business, Community Workforce and Youth Initiative.

Judging was based on revenue from the past three years, customer service and satisfaction, community work in DeKalb County, adversity or obstacles the company had to overcome, competitive differentiation, positive quality of life for employees, and recent awards and recognition.
