The Junior League of Atlanta, Inc. celebrates its 101st year with a new president, Rebekah Henry Murphy, and the new Board of Directors for the 2017-18 League year. The Junior League of Atlanta, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization of over 3,500 diverse women committed to making a difference in the lives of women and children. Many of Atlanta’s treasures, such as the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Children’s Shelter, Trees Atlanta and Atlanta Speech School, were established or founded in part by The Junior League of Atlanta, Inc.
“Having just honored our Centennial anniversary with a $1 Million gift to the Atlanta community, we launch our next century of service by continuing our legacy of transforming communities through the effective action of trained civic women leaders. As we set upon a new century, we have an astounding opportunity to change and challenge the landscape of the Atlanta community by improving the lives, health, education and welfare of our city’s women and children.”, said Rebekah Henry Murphy, President of The Junior League of Atlanta, Inc.
The Junior League of Atlanta, Inc. empowers by harnessing the potential of Atlanta women to take the lead and deliver a measurable impact in the Atlanta community. The League’s programs will continue to tackle critical issues such as early childhood education, commercial sexual exploitation/human trafficking and generational poverty.
This year JLA members will provide more than 100,000 direct service hours to non-profit partners, valued at over $2 million, and will provide nearly $250,000 in grant funding to our community partners. JLA provides more than 3,000 educational and training touch-points, developing members to be effective volunteers and civic leaders. Opportunities include JLA Leadership Institute courses on topics such as advocacy, board readiness, and volunteer management skills, the JLA Women’s Leadership Forum, leadership retreats, and a training partnership with The Center for Civil and Human Rights.
