Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation & Good Sports Donate Sports Equipment to 20 Groups

Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO

Tuesday, July 25th, 2017

The Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation and Good Sports, a national nonprofit, have teamed up to provide $110,000 worth of new athletic equipment, apparel, and footwear that will remove barriers to physical activity for more than 6,000 Georgia children.

“It’s exciting to see thousands of children move off the sidelines and get into the game,” said Kelsey Gillespie, an Atlanta Falcons associate and part of the staff team that reviews and awards grants. “With every delivery of new equipment, more children are adopting healthy lifestyles.”

AFYF and Good Sports work together to ensure that every child in Georgia can participate in sports and fitness activities. For every grant dollar from the AFYF, Good Sports provides at least $2 in equipment donations.

Since 2010, AFYF and Good Sports have donated more than $1.1 million worth of equipment to schools and community groups serving children in 104 Georgia counties. The donations have helped 103,000 children participate in sports and fitness activities.

“We aim to remove participation barriers so that every child has the opportunity to lead an active and healthy lifestyle,” notes Melissa Harper, CEO of Good Sports. “We are able to give kids in need a chance to play thanks to the continued support of the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation who continues to make a tremendous impact on Georgia’s youth.”

To be considered for the next round of AFYF-Good Sports equipment donations, organizations must submit applications by Friday, September 29, 2017. Programs can submit an application by visiting the AFYF landing page on Good Sports’ website – www.goodsports.org/afyf – and completing the online application. Approved applicants will be eligible to receive up to six (6) donations through Good Sports regular donation process over the next two years, and will also be considered for future AFYF-Good Sports equipment grants. Any questions regarding the application can be directed to the Good Sports Program Team at [email protected].
