Thursday, July 6th, 2017
DreamHack, the world’s largest digital festival, is scheduled to run Friday, July 21-Sunday, July 23 at Atlanta’s Georgia World Congress Center. Atlanta marks the second of three cities on this premiere U.S. tour. DreamHack made its U.S. debut during 2016 in Austin, Texas. It returned to Austin in April of this year and will occur in Atlanta in July. DreamHack will make its final stop of the tour in Denver October 20-22.
DreamHack is a meeting place for gamers. During the three-day, non-stop festival, DreamHack Atlanta will host its keystone event — a massive 24-hour-a-day LAN party — along with a host of other activities. Gamers can participate or watch professionals compete in Esports tournaments offering a prize pool of more than $800,000. Major titles include: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Halo 5, H1Z1, Hearthstone, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. Wii U, Overwatch, League of Legends, Tekken 7, Street Fighter V, Starcraft II, Smite, Minecraft and more.
In addition, the festival offers a DreamExpo, bring your own computer LAN, virtual reality demos, open play PC/console areas, video game tournaments open to the public, events for families, learning opportunities, local university video game grudge matches and a live concert.
“DreamHack Atlanta offers a global meeting place for casual, competitive and professional gamers,” said DreamHack Chief Executive Officer Marcus Lindmark. "We are thrilled to be expanding into North America and look forward to the first Atlanta event. With more than $800,000 in Esports tournament prizes, live music, cosplay competition and more, DreamHack Atlanta promises to be an unforgettable experience.”
“DreamHack is a game changer for Georgia,” said Georgia Department of Economic Development Project Manager for Digital Entertainment Asante Bradford. “The gaming community, and digital entertainment in general, is growing quickly in Georgia. Events such as this serve to fuel that growth.”
DreamHack is a family-friendly event. Attendees range in age from elementary school to senior citizen, though most players are young adults ages 14-23.
