Atlanta Habitat for Humanity welcomed Brent Gilfedder, partner in King & Spalding’s Capital Transactions and Real Estate Practice Group, to its Board of Directors September 25, 2017.
“King & Spalding has been a great partner to Atlanta Habitat, and we excited to have Brent to continue our treasured relationship by becoming a member of our board,” says Darryl Hicks, Atlanta Habitat board chair. “Atlanta Habitat has an exciting year ahead as it continues on its trajectory as a leading nonprofit homebuilder in Atlanta, and our board will have a crucial role in this movement.”
Atlanta Habitat’s relationship with King & Spalding stretches back decades as the prominent firm provides pro bono counsel to Atlanta Habitat homeowners and has always had a presence on the board of directors.
Atlanta Habitat board members serve three-year terms and are volunteers who come from a variety of backgrounds with the resources, wisdom, and passion to lead in constructive, effective, and meaningful ways. The board is responsible for setting the overall direction of the organization including strategic goals, finances and governance policies.
“Brent will add to our powerhouse of board leaders who are committed to our mission of empowering working families through homeownership, family education and scholarship programs, and revitalizing neighborhoods with our rehab and repair programs and more,” says Lisa Y. Gordon, Atlanta Habitat President and CEO.
Atlanta Habitat is on target to construct around 50 new houses this year and to rehab and perform critical repairs to nearly 50 homes in Dixie Hills, English Avenue, Lakewood Heights, Vine City and other Atlanta neighborhoods. The organization made an annual $6 million economic investment in Atlanta last year.
