Atlanta Public Schools Seeks Candidates to Fill 400 Seats on School GO Teams

Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO

Friday, February 23rd, 2018

Only one day remains for candidates to declare interest in serving on an Atlanta Public Schools’ GO Team. More than 700 parents, educators and community members currently serve on local school governance teams, GO Teams, as part of the district’s Charter System operating model.  Since July of 2016, GO Teams have been working to develop their school’s strategic plan, offer input on budget, and develop innovative and unique solutions to address student needs.

In June, approximately 400 parent/guardian, teacher, and community member’s terms will expire. Candidacy declaration for these seats is open now through February 23, 2018.  Online elections will follow.

The district is seeking candidates to run for two parent/guardian seats and two educator seats at each school. Community members are also needed and can register to express interest in serving. Candidates for these seats are nominated by the principal and approved by the team. All current GO Team members who have completed their term are eligible to declare candidacy and seek re-election for the available two-year term positions. No experience is necessary. Training and tools are provided.
