Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms (J.D. ’94), an alumna of Georgia State University College of Law, will attend a reception in her honor hosted by the Ronald J. Freeman Chapter of the National Black Law Students Association 6-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 28.
 
“We want to show our support for Mayor Bottoms, an alumna of the Georgia State chapter of BLSA, and commemorate all of her hard work in her career,” said Georgia State Law’s BLSA chapter president Roland Turner Jr. (J.D. ’19). “It is a privilege and honor that she is taking the time out of her extremely busy schedule for this event.”
 
Bottoms, who served on the Atlanta City Council for eight years, will speak at the reception. Judge Ronald J. Freeman (J.D. ’85) of the Union City Municipal Court and attorney Mawuli Davis (J.D. ’02), who is part of the mayor’s transition team, will also give remarks. Turner, College of Law Dean Wendy Hensel and Tanya Washington, professor of law and BLSA’s faculty adviser, will speak.
 
“The success Mayor Bottoms continues to experience reflects the high quality of the legal education that is at the heart of the Georgia State University College of Law’s mission,” Washington said, “and her achievement intersects with the Black Law Students Association’s commitment to influencing the legal community by bringing about meaningful legal and political change that addresses the needs, interests, and concerns of the Black community.”
 
The event is invitation-only and is co-sponsored by the Davis Bozeman law firm, DeKalb Lawyers Association, Georgia State University Black Law Students Association Class of 2015, National Black Law Students Association Pre-Law Division, R. Gary Spencer PC, Tiffany W. Roberts (J.D. ’08), attorney at law, The Firm of Dawn M. Jones (J.D. ’00) and the college.
