The City of Atlanta announced the release of the City’s first Annual Bicycle Report. The report highlights the City’s progress toward becoming a top-tier bicycle friendly city and includes ridership and bike share data, key 2017 bicycle infrastructure projects and bicycle planning initiatives.

“I am pleased to present the City of Atlanta’s 2017 Annual Bicycle Report. As Atlanta evolves, we must continue to enhance the quality of life for our residents by creating new ways to revitalize our neighborhoods, reduce traffic and provide for healthy lifestyles,” said Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.  “With the ever-growing number of people embracing cycling as a means to navigate our City, building miles of new bicycle lanes and providing safer infrastructure for cyclists preserves our reputation as a city that respects and supports alternative modes of transportation.”

In 2017, the City of Atlanta accomplished significant milestones. Path Parkway received the award of Best Bikeway of the Year by PeopleforBikes, 10 new miles of bikeways were constructed and more than 25,000 people rode Relay Bike Share.

 Under Mayor Bottom’s Administration, the City plans to continue this growth by utilizing TSPLOST funding to double Relay Bike Share stations to make bikes available to more communities. A special focus will be in communities that require access to affordable transportation options by reconstructing roadways to add new trails and protected bike lanes.

“This annual Bicycle Report highlights our residents’ enthusiasm about the optimization of Atlanta as a bicycle friendly city,” said Tim Keane, Commissioner of the Department of City Planning.  “This ensures that we are held accountable in pursuing and achieving the goals set forth by the Department of City Planning and the Mayor.”
