Horizons Atlanta Adds Four New Board Members
Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO
Wednesday, March 7th, 2018
Horizons Atlanta announced they have added four additional members to their Board of Directors to support the educational access mission of the nonprofit organization.
Horizons Atlanta believes that every child in Atlanta, regardless of background, should have the same chance at making a positive impact on his or her community. Their signature program is a tuition-free six-week summer learning program proven to close the opportunity gap.
New board members include Tiffany Burns of McKinsey & Company, M. Patrick Carroll of the Carroll Organization, Jeff Fendler of Primerica, and Stacy Goodman Scott, a longtime Community Advisor.
The new members will join an existing influential board to help stimulate the organization’s growth plan to serve even more students and communities in the metro Atlanta area by combatting summer slide and closing the opportunity gap that negatively impacts the life trajectory of underserved children.
Summer learning loss, the phenomenon where young people lose academic skills over the summer, is one of the most significant causes of the achievement gap between lower and higher income youth and one of the strongest contributors to the high school dropout rate.
