Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms thanked Chief Operating Officer Dan Gordon for his exemplary service to the City of Atlanta. Gordon has served in the role since 2015 and will be returning to the private sector in a senior executive role. His last day will be April 1, 2018.

“I want to thank Dan for his dedication and leadership to the City of Atlanta,” said Mayor Bottoms. “He has worked tirelessly to improve the efficiency of our daily operations, and played a significant role in closing complex transactions. His compassion for our employees, constituents and the community is commendable. I am appreciative of Dan’s willingness to assist with our transition.”

As COO, Gordon helped to manage and execute high profile transactions such as the annexation of Emory University, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta; a new 20-year Airport Lease and Use Agreement with Delta Airlines leading to $6 billion of investments at Hartsfield-Jackson; and the sale of Underground Atlanta.  Gordon also helped the City to reach record cash reserves exceeding $200 million, AA+ credit across all three major rating agencies (the City’s highest rating in 40 years), an 80 percent reduction in information systems downtime, and a 15 percent decrease in airport wait times. During Gordon’s tenure, he worked closely with all three public safety chiefs to reduce overall crime by an additional 11 percent, improve Atlanta Fire and Rescue response times by three percent, and implement a new transport initiative between the Department of Corrections and the Atlanta Police Department that created well over 7,000 additional hours for police to actively prevent and respond to crime. He also built strong relationships across the region to improve interoperability, communications and emergency response coordination.

“I am deeply grateful to Mayor Reed and Mayor Bottoms for the opportunity to serve our community. It has been an honor to work under such talented and visionary leaders. I am so proud of what we have accomplished,” said Dan Gordon. “Serving as COO has been the opportunity of a lifetime. I would like to thank my wife and children for all they have done to support me in this fast-paced role. To my heroes - the employees - thank you for all you are doing to keep our City safe and ascendant. I am excited about the future of our City and look forward to continuing to support Mayor Bottoms and my successor with a smooth transition.”

Gordon, earned his MBA in Finance and Real Estate and a BA degree in International Studies from Emory University.  Prior to joining the City, Gordon worked for organizations such as The Home Depot, The Arthur M. Blank Family of Businesses, The Home Service Store, and North American Properties. He also has served in significant leadership positions, volunteering at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation, Grady Hospital Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, Leadership Atlanta, Outstanding Atlanta, Lab Atlanta and Atlanta’s Super Bowl Host Committee.
