Clayton State University is recognizing the work and service of two of Georgia’s prominent attorneys during spring 2018 commencement exercises.

Robert “Bob” Edge, senior counsel for leading international law firm Alston & Bird, and Alexander “Alex” Crumbley, former state senator, judicial court judge and founder of Crumbley Law Firm will both receive honorary degrees.

Both men played a critical role in the establishment of Spivey Hall, Clayton State’s performance art venue.

Edge was instrumental in the establishment of the Walter and Emilie Spivey Foundation, Inc., and has been involved with the Spivey Foundation since its inception. He participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for Spivey Hall in 1988, which later opened its doors in 1991.

Edge has continued his service on the Foundation’s board of trustees for over 30 years, where he was past chairman and currently serves as vice chairman. Edge and his wife, Betty, are also members of the Spivey Hall Friends.

Crumbley has developed a close connection with Spivey Hall over the last decade. He was elected chairman of the Walter and Emilie Spivey Foundation, Inc. in 2005, and continues in that role today. He and his wife, Claire, are also founding members of the Spivey Hall Friends, and remain active members to the present time.

Edge and Crumbley will receive their honorary degrees at Clayton State’s spring 2018 undergraduate commencement exercises held on Saturday, May 5 in the Athletics Center.
