Atlanta Sets Visitation Record in 2017 with 53 Million Travelers

Atlanta reached a milestone for visitation in a single year, welcoming 53 million visitors in 2017. This represents three percent growth from the previous year and $15 billion in visitor spending.
 
“With renovations, expansions and launches taking place throughout our city, Atlanta remains a top destination for meetings and leisure travel as we continue our drive to welcome 55 million visitors annually by 2020,” said William Pate, president and CEO, Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau.
 
Hotel occupancy closed at 73 percent, the fourth-straight year the city finished above the 70 percent mark.Convention business remained strong as the city hosted more than 740 meetings and events, including 17 major citywide conventions.
 
Additional highlights from 2017 include the Atlanta Braves hosting their inaugural season at SunTrust Park and the opening of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons and Major League Soccer team Atlanta United FC.
