Doug Kertscher, a partner at the law firm of Hill, Kertscher & Wharton, LLP, recently presented at the SHRM Atlanta Legal Summit. The event brought together nearly 100 human resource professionals, attorneys, and other experts who shared ideas about best practices for complying with the myriad of complex and ever-changing state and federal labor and employment laws.

Kertscher and his co-presented, Atlanta attorney Amanda Farahany, covered a wide array of topics in a session titled “From the Plaintiff’s Perspective: Mistakes HR Practitioners Should Avoid!” Their discussion also generated important questions from the audience regarding EEOC filings, minimum and overtime wage issues, and effective methods for confronting high-level executives about potential misconduct and legal claims.

Kertscher believes the SHRM Summit is an excellent venue for professionals who want to take a deeper dive into complex legal issues affecting almost all employers and employees. “Social media, sexual harassment, and legislative action are creating a very complicated landscape for everyone involved in the workplace,” said Kertscher. “The SHRM Summit gives each attendee the opportunity to hear about important issues from many different perspectives. It’s also a great event for reconnecting with old colleagues and meeting new industry pros.”

Kertscher is no stranger to presenting on complex legal issues, and his work has been noticed by his colleagues inside and outside of the legal community. He has been named to the list of Georgia Super Lawyers eight times, is AV Rated by Martindale-Hubbell, and holds a perfect 10.0 rating from Avvo. In December, Kertscher was also recognized by Georgia Trend Magazine as one of the state’s Legal Elite in employment law.
