Hinson Joins MMM to Lead Cybersecurity and Privacy Practice

Elizabeth “Bess” Hinson has joined Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP, an AmLaw 200 firm, to chair the firm’s Cybersecurity and Privacy Practice. Hinson is a well-known privacy attorney and founder of the Atlanta Women in Cybersecurity Roundtable. She joins as a senior associate in MMM’s Technology Transactions Group and is based in the Atlanta office. She will work closely with the firm’s current privacy lawyers who also focus in the areas of litigation, healthcare and data breaches.

As a full-service, nationally recognized firm, MMM provides me with a strong platform to represent clients’ data privacy and cybersecurity needs, including navigating data breaches.”
Hinson represents clients at all stages of incident response from investigation, notification, remediation and managing privacy class action risks as well as defense of litigation and regulatory inquiry. She regularly counsels businesses on cross-border data flows and navigating conflicts between foreign privacy laws and U.S. compliance obligations. She oversees and coordinates EU GDPR compliance assessment and implementation programs for clients. Hinson has experience in privacy matters, including information governance and data management, online advertising, internal compliance policies and consumer policies, including website and mobile application policies, vendor management, blockchain, and advising on privacy and security-related compliance strategies and programs.

Hinson is also a member of The American Lawyer’s Young Lawyer Editorial Board. She received her J.D. from The University of Michigan Law School, her M.St. from the University of Oxford, and her B.A. from Yale University. At Michigan Law School, she was Executive Articles Editor of the Michigan Journal of Race & Law and served as a student attorney in the Human Trafficking Clinic. She also served as a law clerk to the Hon. Eugene E. Siler, Jr. who sits on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
