Atlanta-based nonprofit organization Women In Technology awards grants to area organizations and nonprofits that align with the organization’s mission. Grantees include girl serving organizations dedicated to empowering girls and women to excel in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math), as well as area robotic teams that allow WIT to continue to extend its reach.

“It brings us immense pleasure to demonstrate our support to our community members through the presentation of WIT grants. The work that each of these organizations is doing is working to increase the pipeline of female STEAM leaders and we are excited to support their efforts,” Sandy Welfare, WIT Executive Director.

Danielle Joiner-McPherson, WIT Board President, shared “WIT is focused on expanding our impact in underserved areas and exercising our new focus on the “A” in STEAM. As we work to meet the needs of the community, we’re happy to support organizations who have also accepted the challenge to change the future for the next generation.”

WIT awarded a total  of $10,000 to the following organizations: 

Cool Girls Inc.: an Atlanta-based nonprofit, founded in 1989, dedicated to the self-empowerment of girls from Atlanta’s toughest neighborhoods. Cool Girls’ Cool Tech program teaches Cool Girls participants about robotics, video game design, graphic design, animation, programming languages, and science experiments.

Georgia Gwinnett College Foundation: The Georgia Gwinnett College Foundation builds relationships with alumni, friends, corporations and foundations to raise, manage, invest and administer funds from private resources to further academic excellence at Georgia Gwinnett College.

Girls Incorporated of Greater Atlanta: Girls Inc. develops research-based informal education programs that encourage girls to take risks and master physical, intellectual and emotional challenges. Major programs address math and science education, pregnancy and drug abuse prevention, media literacy, economic literacy, adolescent health, violence prevention, and sports participation.

North Atlanta Warbotz: The North Atlanta High School Warbotz is a robotics team that combines STEM and teamwork to foster academic growth and skill. Every year, students together to brainstorm, plan, and build an efficient and competitive robot for FIRST; An international youth organization that operates the First Robotics Competition, First Lego League, First Lego League Jr., and First Tech Challenge competitions.

YMCA of Greater Atlanta: YWCA of Greater Atlanta, a 501(c) charitable organization, is a local chapter of the national organization, YWCA USA, and has been a voice for change for women and families in Georgia since its founding at Spelman College in 1902. Our organization’s foundation is built upon a history of mobilizing diverse groups of women leaders to identify community problems, advocate for solutions, and create more equitable communities in Georgia. We address the needs of women and girls at multiple levels, providing direct services and programs in tandem with public policy analysis. Our services and programs focus on three key areas: Advocacy & Social Justice, Education & Economic Empowerment, and Health & Safety for Women and Girls
