Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO

Wednesday, June 27th, 2018

During the workday, they are competitors, but on June 28, media personalities and local journalists representing different organizations will put competition aside to help feed children in need along with the Atlanta Community Food Bank and The Soulfull Project for The Great Summer Dish.

The inaugural event will be held Thursday, June 28 from 10:30am-12:30pm inside the Food Bank’s Product Rescue Center located at 732 Joseph E. Lowery Blvd, NW in Atlanta. This is the Food Bank’s first collaboration with The Soulfull Project. The Soulfull Project is a unique effort to help combat hunger in local communities - for every serving purchased, the company donates a serving of wholesome hot cereal to a food bank in that region. Attendees will sort and pack 1,000 backpacks filled with healthy food for children facing food insecurity this summer.

“We are excited to embark on collaborative partnership with a company that was founded on the belief that one person can make a difference in the fight against hunger”, said Heather Schlesinger, Chief Marketing Officer at the Atlanta Community Food Bank. “We look forward to launching this volunteer day with The Soulfull Project and to have the support of our media friends, who are champions for the Food Bank and our work year-round.”

Approximately 1 in 5 Georgia children face food insecurity, a problem that is often made worse during the summer months. The Food Bank’s Child Nutrition Team works with school districts in their 29 county service area to increase participation in the free and reduced breakfast and lunch program. The bags packed during The Great Summer Dish will go directly to 11 local schools for their summer food distributions. Volunteers will pack bags that include The Soulfull Project’s 4 Grain Blend Oatmeal and other items donated by various Food Bank supporters.

“Our mission is to make high-quality and nutritious food more accessible to those in need in the Atlanta area and around the US,” said Chip Heim, Co-Founder of The Soulfull Project. “The Great Summer Dish gives us an amazing opportunity to connect children and families with the resources needed to help alleviate some of the pressures these families face during the summer months a food insecurity can be a daily struggle.”
