Downtown Atlanta Boasts Nation's 9th-Greatest Urban Development Potential

Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO

Friday, June 15th, 2018

Key Highlights

Downtown Atlanta is home to one of the roomiest central business districts in our top 25, with 22 development-ready acres and only a little over 700,000 square feet of construction completed since 2013;

Though only 427 residential units are currently underway, the whopping 18 million sq. ft. of office and 740 residential units still awaiting city approvals should make for a spectacular increase in construction activity and density in the coming years;

Atlanta's development potential is high and denizens certainly think there's room for improvement, especially when it comes to homeless shelters, housing, and parks (in that order);

We’ve also conducted a nationwide survey of individuals living and/or working in these 25 cities, asking them what they want to have built in their city’s urban core, what they feel the city needs most at this time, and what they feel would be the most beneficial transportation development or improvement.
