Today, the Junior League of Atlanta, Inc. announced the receipt of a $32,389 matching grant from Grants to Green to fund eco-friendly and energy efficient initiatives throughout the JLA’s headquarters. The grant dollars will focus specifically on working to address energy consumption and incorporating sustainability enhancements to the building, which is used by over 3,000 JLA members and community partners.

“The Junior League of Atlanta is honored to receive this generous award from Grants to Green, as we share their commitment to environmental sustainability,” said Carla C. Smith, president of The Junior League of Atlanta, Inc. “This award allows us to update our headquarters in an environmentally and fiscally responsible way. The energy and resulting cost savings can be channelled toward our work to improve the lives of women and children and provide our dedicated members and partners with a beautiful, efficient space to do the critical work of transforming the Atlanta community.”

Launched in 2008, Grants to Green gives nonprofits the opportunity to renovate or build healthier workplaces that are environmentally efficient and provides environmentally focused knowledge and funding to strengthen nonprofits in the Atlanta region. Grants to Green is a partnership initiative between the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, a respected grant maker and community leader in metro Atlanta and the Southeastern region, and Southface, a national expert in “green” building science, design and construction. The Kendeda Fund, a longtime funder of the Community Foundation, funds the Grants to Green initiative.

After receiving an assessment of its facility and recommendations for how to improve efficiency, The Junior League of Atlanta, Inc. applied for and was awarded an implementation grant in the amount of $32,389 to replace HVAC units; install web-based temperature management, LED lighting and intelligent controls; and insulate the attic. After matching this amount for a total of $64,778, the JLA will be able to implement all of those recommendations.
