Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has announced the appointment of Karen Carter as the Interim Director of the Office of Grants Management. The office is responsible for the financial and administrative functions of all grants awarded to the City of Atlanta.

Carter already has several years of valuable experience with the City, which includes serving previously as the Director of Municipal Finance. She brings an extensive understanding of cost efficiencies and fiscal oversight to her new role, which will increase the footprint of transparency and equity at City Hall.

“The Office of Grants Management oversees critical funding from both our private and public partners, including the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development,” said Mayor Bottoms. “From Community Development Block Grants to Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS, these funds do more than simply finance initiatives. They bring hope to the residents of our City. Karen Carter understands that.”

Carter’s first priority will be to strengthen financial controls both internally and externally as grant money is allocated, so that taxpayers can be confident that funds are distributed fairly and responsibly. Her appointment is effective immediately.
