Thursday, August 23rd, 2018
Camila Zolfaghari has joined Street Grace in a newly created position as vice president of policy for the faith-based organization focused on mobilizing faith, business and community leaders to end domestic minor sex trafficking throughout the U.S. Zolfaghari brings more than a decade of experience prosecuting human trafficking cases and advocating for legislative changes in Georgia and throughout the U.S.
“In recent years, our efforts to end the sexual trafficking of children have expanded to more than a dozen states and counting,” said Bob Rodgers, president and CEO, Street Grace, an Atlanta-based non-profit. “Camila’s unequivocal passion for this work coupled with her experience working on the other side of the issue to help restore lives and seek justice makes this a wonderful partnership, particularly as our reach expands both locally and nationally.”
At Street Grace, Zolfaghari will work with Attorneys General offices across the country to support the continued growth of Street Grace’s “Demand an End” national initiative. Additionally, she will lead continued development of policies aimed to end human trafficking by addressing those who fuel human trafficking through demand.
“We can’t end sex trafficking without focusing on demand,” said Rodgers, noting the underground sex economy is a multi-billion illegal business in the U.S. It is the fastest-growing illegal business and second only in size to drug trafficking. “Our programs are intensely focused on prevention and the protection of all those who are vulnerable, as well as the pursuit of buyers with a focus on eliminating demand by removing the cloak of anonymity.”
Zolfaghari’s previous work includes being appointed by Georgia’s former Attorney General Sam Olens as the first chief prosecutor dedicated to the prosecution of human trafficking. While overseeing the Attorney General’s policy agenda on human trafficking, she also led trainings for law enforcement and prosecutors at the state and national level. Prior to that, she led the Human Trafficking Unit for the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office where she was responsible for the prosecution of all cases related to human trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of children.
Zolfaghari obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina and her LLM in
International Law from the University of Amsterdam where she also conducted research in the field of International Law.
