Harris Lowry Manton LLP Partners Jeff Harris, Steve Lowry and Jed Manton presented the law firm’s inaugural $5,000 Civil Justice Scholarship to Georgia State University School of Law student John Hooven on August 14 at the firm’s Atlanta office. The Harris Lowry Manton LLP Civil Justice Scholarship is designed to support aspiring attorneys with a commitment to justice.
A native of Evans, Ga., Hooven double-majored in Political Science and Spanish at the University of Georgia before enrolling at the Georgia State University School of Law. This second-year law school student stood out among a national pool of applicants with his research-supported essay on the importance of the United States’ trial by jury system and his impressive application.
"Our firm is delighted to recognize such an outstanding law school student at Georgia State University," said Steve Lowry, partner at Harris Lowry Manton LLP. "We're confident that John Hooven has a bright future as an attorney and are thrilled to support his efforts with the Harris Lowry Manton LLP Civil Justice Scholarship."
Hooven will use the scholarship to fund his second year of legal studies and to allocate more time to participating in Moot Court and Student Trial Lawyers Association competitions throughout the year. In fact, his experience as a member of the University of Georgia’s Mock Trial team initially caused him to fall in love with litigation and to steer his political science-based interests toward a career as litigation attorney.
“I’m deeply honored to be selected as the recipient of this prestigious scholarship and am extremely grateful to earn recognition from such an inspiring group of attorneys,” said Hooven. “This vote of confidence inspires me to continue to work hard in the classroom and beyond.”
