Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO

Wednesday, October 17th, 2018

The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Metro Atlanta residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The Walk will take place on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at KSU Sports and Entertainment Park in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's participants will complete a three-mile walk and will learn about Alzheimer's disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer’s Association. Walk participants also honor those affected by Alzheimer's disease with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony.

"I was a caregiver of my husband for 9 years and without a doubt, I could not have survived this journey without the resources of the Alzheimer's Association that I refer to as a life line of support for my family”, added Nancy Chinigo, chair, Greater Atlanta Walk to End Alzheimer’s.  “When you choose to invest in the Alzheimer's Association, you can be assured your dollars are put to work immediately- providing services at no cost to those in need and helping caregivers to remain healthy and productive members of their families, society and the workplace."

In addition to the three-mile walk, participants will enjoy a free concert with the Kerlin Felix Band.  Sponsors include The Fountainview Center for Alzheimer's Disease, MillerZell, RCG Ventures, Alto Senior Living, The Arbor Company and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S. and the only disease among the top 10 causes that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed. Additionally, more than 16 million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the U.S. In Georgia alone, there are more than 140,000 people living with the disease and 527,000 caregivers.
