Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton announced the addition of Doug Gilfillan as a partner on the nationally recognized Government Enforcement and Investigations Team in the Litigation Department in the firm’s Atlanta office.
 
Mr. Gilfillan joins the firm after serving as Chief of the Cyber Crimes and Intellectual Property Section, and National Security Cyber Specialist in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia.Prior to that role, he was Deputy Chief of the office’s Economic Crimes Section. Mr. Gilfillan has served in the United States Attorney’s Office since 2007.

While at the United States Attorney’s Office, Mr. Gilfillan handled a wide variety of white collar criminal investigations and prosecutions, including numerous jury trials to verdict and appeals in such cases.  In his most recent role, Mr. Gilfillan supervised and handled investigations and prosecution of computer intrusions and data breaches, intellectual property offenses, and counter proliferation cases. Prior to that, as a Deputy Chief of the Economic Crimes Section and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, he supervised and handled investigations and prosecution of securities and investment fraud, criminal False Claims Act matters, mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, public corruption matters, federal program and government contracting fraud, and union and labor fraud cases, among other matters.
 
Mr. Gilfillan worked closely with the FBI’s cyber and white collar crime squads, cyber-crime agents with the Secret Service, and numerous other federal law enforcement agencies.  He also worked closely with the SEC and other civil regulatory authorities in prosecutions involving parallel criminal and civil investigations and litigation.  Mr. Gilfillan also has significant experience consulting with companies and third parties regarding cyber legal issues and investigations.

In addition to acting as lead counsel on numerous white-collar criminal cases, Mr. Gilfillan is a sought-after speaker for panel discussions and presentations to legal industry associations and other groups.  He is a magna cum laude graduate of Southern Methodist University and earned his law degree, with distinction, from Emory University School of Law.
