Economic empowerment and community building were the guiding principles as Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport hosted its 2018 ATL Airport Career Fair on October 30 at the Georgia International Convention Center. Over the last five years, ATL has hosted an Airport Community Job Fair (now the ATL Airport Career Fair) to connect skilled jobseekers with industry-leading employers who help run the world’s busiest and most efficient airport. The event was a great success, hosting 2046 jobseekers, with 217 hired on the spot.
To further assist jobseekers, work-ready training classes were offered prior to the career fair by our partners at Worksource Atlanta, Worksource Fulton and ARC Worksource. Classes included: resume critiquing, dressing for success, interviewing skills and customer service. Participants from the training sessions were given priority access to the career fair for participating in two of the four classes offered.
“The success of the Career Fair is based on the variety of options and the use of a “smart” map that identifies the company, booth location and job opportunities,” said Chermaine Axam-Wilkins, assistant manager of Community Affairs. “Through events like this, we are able to support the economic needs of the community and identify a qualified workforce to fill those needs.”
The career fair offered more than 2000 available jobs from 62 companies including: City of Atlanta, Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Delta Global Services, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Lufthansa, British Airways, and Qatar.
Department of Aviation leaders were also on hand to engage the job seekers, concessionaires, stakeholders, and community businesses.
“I have never seen a career fair of this size put on by an airport,” said John Selden, general manager, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. “I am very proud of the work our ATL team is doing to help fill the employment gap for our stakeholders.”
