Atlanta Sets Jobs Record in November

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Atlanta set another record in November for total jobs.
At the same time, monthly numbers dipped slightly for labor force and number of employed. Still, Atlanta maintained annual growth in all critical measures.
“This really has been a great year for Georgia,” Butler said. “Across the state we continue to add jobs, and find people to fill them. We’ve routinely set records. There is much to be thankful for this holiday season.”
The unemployment rate for November, at 3.2 percent, was down 0.2 percent over the previous month. A year ago, the rate was 4.1 percent. That rate was tied for third lowest among the 14 MSAs. The rate decreased in 13 of the 14 MSAs.
The labor force in Atlanta fell by 14,258 in November to reach 3.1 million. That number is up by about 20,000 over the past year – an average monthly increase of about 1,700.
Atlanta lost 5,751 employed residents in November, pushing the total to 2.9 million. The number is up 47, 208 for the year, or about 3,900 per month.
Jobs grew by 15,600 in November to 2.8 million - a record high. Atlanta’s job total is up 59,400 over the year – an average monthly increase of almost 5,000.
Claims for unemployment insurance increased by 14 percent in November. They were up by 4 percent when compared to the same month a year ago.
