City of Atlanta Announces New Scheduled Bulk Collection for Residents

Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO

Thursday, March 28th, 2019

The City of Atlanta Department of Public Works announced the implementation of scheduled residential bulk collection to begin Monday, April 1, 2019. Residents will receive 12 scheduled bulk pick-ups per year at no charge. This includes over 20 bags of yard trimmings.

The new scheduled bulk collections process affords residents a variety of benefits—enhanced convenience and reliability in services, a reduction in fuel usage and emissions, and a noticeable reduction in blight throughout the city.

“The City of Atlanta consistently strives to improve the quality of solid waste service delivery,” said DPW Commissioner James A. Jackson, Jr. “Aside from providing our residents enhanced convenience, scheduled bulk collection will result in reduction of fuel usage and equipment maintenance.”

Bulk items should not be placed curbside before 7 p.m. on the day preceding the scheduled pick-up day. If items are curbside prior to that time, residents may receive a citation. Residents who place bulk curbside without scheduling a pick-up will receive written warnings from April 2019 through June 2019. Effective July 1, 2019, residents will be charged $325 for failing to schedule collection and/or if they exceed 12 collections per year.
