Cobb County Kicks Off Georgia's March for Babies Walks at The Battery Atlanta on March 30th

Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO

Wednesday, March 13th, 2019

Looking for an opportunity to get some fresh air, exercise and give back to a meaningful cause this spring? Join thousands of families and local business leaders on March 30th for metro Atlanta’s first March for Babies walk as it kicks off for the very first time at The Battery Atlanta (800 Battery Avenue) to fight for the health of all moms and babies. And if you love Atlanta Braves baseball, you also have a chance to enjoy a game and support the March for Babies. By purchasing a ticket to the April 6th Braves vs. Marlins game @ 7:20 p.m. through this link, the Braves have generously committed to donating a portion of the proceeds back to the March of Dimes. The ticket holders who purchase through the link will also be able to participate in the pregame parade around the field. Tickets must be purchased by April 4th before midnight.

March of Dimes gives more than 4 million babies born each year the best possible start. Nearly half a million of them are born prematurely or with birth defects. Premature birth and its complications are the largest contributors to infant death in the U.S. and pregnancy-related death has more than doubled over the past 25 years.

“When you March for Babies, you make a statement that you want to live in a world in which healthy moms and strong babies are a priority for us all,” says Shane Salter, Executive Director of March of Dimes, Atlanta-Central Market. “Together we hope for the day when all moms and babies are healthy. We remember those babies we lost. We celebrate every baby.”

On-site registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. with the walk kicking off at 9:00 a.m. You can sign up today at marchforbabies.org for the Cobb County event or register for other area March for Babies and begin fundraising in person or online. Start a team with your company, family or friends. You can also simply donate directly. Any amount is appreciated as they work towards their $400,000 goal.

Walkers will be entertained by the Atlanta Braves’ official DJ, DJ Tron, and refreshments will be provided by Publix. March for Babies is sponsored nationally by Kmart, Famous Footwear, Macy’s, HCA, Cigna and regionally by Publix Super Markets, Inc. March for Babies is sponsored locally by Wellstar Health Systems, Northside Hospital, and Lockheed Martin.

ShaTonya Nicholson, CGMP Community Relations Manager at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, serves as the Cobb County March for Babies chair. “I’m excited to be a part of this event that brings our community together to raise funds and awareness to make a huge difference for moms and babies across the state, and in Cobb County,” says Nicholson.
