ATL Airport Ranked No. 5 Best In Country For Lowest Flight Cancellations

Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO

A new study by InsureMyTrip reveals Hartsfield-Jackson International (ATL) ranks the fifth best in the nation when it comes to flight cancellations, with one of the lowest percentages of canceled flights (roughly .65%) for all of 2018.

That's a significant improvement from 2017. During that year, a major power outage crippled the airport for a short time, leading to a spike in reported flight cancellations.

Researchers at InsureMyTrip evaluated the latest data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. The data included newly updated information on cancellations for all US airports last year. InsureMyTrip calculated all the cancellation percentages and published an updated ranking.

As for other airports, Salt Lake City took the top spot. New York's LaGuardia had the worst track record, winter storms a factor, forcing many flights to call it quits last winter.

Looking ahead, InsureMyTrip predicts the grounding of Boeing 737 Max jets will inflate cancellation rates for many airports nationwide when 2019 percentages are calculated.
