The Fox Theatre Institute and Georgia Public Library Service are partnering to send the popular “Fox in a Box” exhibit on a statewide tour of public libraries.

“Fox in a Box” is an interactive banner exhibit that focuses on how important events in the Fox Theatre’s timeline intersect with American history, the Civil Rights Movement, economics and the importance of communities. Participants are challenged to think about how communities come together to share an experience and to protect what’s important to them.

“We are grateful and honored to partner with the Georgia Public Library Service to expand ‘Fox in a Box’ throughout Georgia,” said Leigh Burns, director of the Fox Theatre Institute. “Educating the community on the Fox Theatre’s role throughout history with this interactive, educational exhibit will help us increase awareness and sustainability of historic theaters and cultural centers beyond our home at the Fox Theatre.”

While hosting the exhibit, libraries will conduct immersive educational sessions for patrons using a history lesson provided by the Fox Theater Institute. The lesson takes patrons on a “tour” of the Fox’s history using a slideshow, video and archival images.

On May 1, the exhibit opens at its first stop, the Clarkesville-Habersham Library, part of the Northeast Georgia Regional Library system. From there, it will travel to 17 more library systems around Georgia going as far south as the Wayne County Library, part of the Three Rivers Regional Library System.

“Through partnerships with organizations across the state, Georgia’s public libraries provide families with educational and recreational opportunities to spend time together while saving money,” said State Librarian Julie Walker. “The ‘Fox in a Box’ exhibit is another fantastic benefit of your free library card, and we're so pleased to partner with the Fox Theatre Institute in their outstanding cultural programming.”

The Fox Theatre Institute also donated a DVD copy of “The Legend Lives On:  Atlanta’s Fox Theatre” by Georgia Public Broadcasting to each of the libraries. The exhibit tour is scheduled to wrap up in early 2021.
