Judy Mozen, president of metro Atlanta-based Handcrafted Homes, Inc. and former Board Chair for the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), has received a prestigious national NARI President’s Award at the organization’s annual Spring Business Meeting in San Diego.  The award was presented by David Pekel, CEO of the national remodeling organization, in recognition of Mozen’s outstanding leadership capability in the broad range of service to the organization.

Mozen has been an active NARI member since 2004, serving as Secretary, Treasurer, President and Chairman of the Certification Board for the national organization.  A NARI Certified Remodeler and Green Certified Professional, she is also an EarthCraft Builder and EarthCraft Remodeler.  Mozen, a pioneering woman in the homebuilding and remodeling industries, has long been an advocate of recruiting women and minorities into the home building and remodeling industries and is a sought-after speaker on women in business, leadership and the remodeling industry.

“It is an honor to be recognized by NARI with the President’s Award,” said Mozen.  “When I began my business about 40 years ago, I was one of only a few women in construction, and, in general, we were not always welcome,” says Mozen.  “Today, the industry is facing a severe skilled labor shortage, due in part to so many workers leaving the industry during the recession.  We need more women to join our field!  While I served as NARI President, I traveled the country, speaking about the wonderful opportunities available to a diverse population including women, people of color and young people in construction and remodeling.  I’ve also been working with NARI’s national office and individual local chapters to increase the diversity of our workforce.”
