Arantza Pena Popo, a talented student from Lithonia, Georgia, could soon have her art on the Google homepage for hundreds of millions to see.
Earlier today, the tech giant announced its state and regional winners for the annual Doodle 4 Google competition — a contest open to K-12 students across the United States to redesign the Google logo inspired by the theme “When I grow up, I hope…” Arantza, a senior at Arabia Mountain High School, was selected from thousands of entries to represent the state of Georgia.
Her doodle, "Once You Get It, Give It Back," is one of 53 State and Territory Winners and will now advance to the final stages of the competition.
Online voting will be held from June 3-7 to determine the five National Finalists. Arantza's supporters in Georgia — and everyone across the U.S. — can vote for their favorite doodle from the 53 State and Territory winners. Google will announce the five National Finalists later in June, and one of them will be chosen to have their doodle featured on the Google homepage for a day.
In addition to having their art showcased for millions of people on Google.com, the National Winner will take home a $30,000 college scholarship and their school will receive a $50,000 tech package towards the establishment or improvement of a computer lab or technology program.
