Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO

Tuesday, September 24th, 2019

Tandem Bank, the first new bank in Georgia in 11 years, will open its flagship location on September 23rd in downtown Tucker. The full-service community bank will serve entrepreneurs, small- to mid-sized businesses, professionals and residents in and around the Tucker area. The community bank will work alongside customers to reach their financial goals. Tandem Bank will use technology and a branch-light model to connect with customers both personally and through digital delivery channels.

Tandem Bank has been created with the client in mind. The focus of the bank is to leverage technology to help individuals and businesses with their banking needs while providing the style of personalized service expected from a local bank. The new approach to banking will allow customers to bank traditionally or take care of all transactions online.

"We see a lot of people who are frustrated with banks’ lack of flexibility,” says Charles DeWitt, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Tandem Bank. “They get too big to take a common-sense approach to helping you accomplish your goals. Tandem Bank is uniquely set up to enable customers to bank in a way that works for them.”

Tandem Bank is led by Charles DeWitt who has organized the bank with 12 other business and community leaders, most of whom have strong ties to the Tucker and Decatur area. The leadership team brings years of experience in the banking industry to Tandem Bank. They also have extensive experience as entrepreneurs helping small business leaders navigate their banking needs.

Earlier this year, Georgia’s Department of Banking and Finance approved Tandem Bank as the first traditional de novo community bank in Georgia since 2008. Commissioner Kevin Hagler stated that “the formation of this new state bank is further evidence that community banking in Georgia has recovered from the depths of the financial crisis.” Georgia’s state-chartered banks provide approximately 50 percent of the banking industry’s small loans to businesses. Tandem Bank will focus on locally owned small- to mid-sized businesses beginning in the Tucker area. In Tucker, there are more than 1,600 small businesses with revenue less than $20 million.

Tandem Bank Director Brad Spratt says,  "Tandem Bank is set up to think and act like an entrepreneur and small business owner. We work to have a personal connection with our customers and tailor our offerings to meet their needs. As a local bank, we’ll thrive by helping our customers thrive.”

Tandem Bank will open for business at 2356 Main Street in Downtown Tucker on September 23, 2019. Future locations include Downtown Decatur and Peachtree Corners.
