A first stop for many people exploring Atlanta is Centennial Olympic Park, where visitors will find an exclusive collaboration by local artists Lotus Eaters Club and Tiny Doors ATL. In the heart of Downtown, the new mural “Welcome to ATL. This is where the fun begins” adorns an exterior wall of Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (ACVB) visitor information center, giving a whimsical look at the city.
“It’s a mural for everyone that welcomes visitors to Atlanta with a sense of surprise and excitement, inviting them to have fun like ATLiens do,” said Sheretha Bell, vice president, brand, ACVB. “Its location in Centennial Olympic Park marks the perfect place for anyone walking to nearby attractions, hotels and restaurants to stop, wonder and smile, while showcasing the creativity and imagination of our talented local artists.”
Lotus Eaters Club transformed the blank space into an interactive piece of art, incorporating augmented reality through their app. The mural comes to life with spaceships and aliens descending on Atlanta, Delta Air Lines planes arriving, fountains splashing and the flame burning atop Hermes Tower. Another app exclusive is the multilingual messaging displayed to greet guests visiting from across the globe. App users can step into the mural and become a part of the story, giving a new perspective to Centennial Olympic Park.
This collaboration encourages visitors to start their Atlanta experience in and around Centennial Olympic Park. The mural includes subtle nods to family-friendly attractions including Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame, Children’s Museum of Atlanta, CNN Studio Tours, Georgia Aquarium, National Center for Civil and Human Rights, SkyView Atlanta and World of Coca-Cola.
Karen Anderson Singer of Tiny Doors ATL provided the finishing touches with the addition of three tiny doors including one on top of the rainbow, one with the angled awning of the visitor information center. Throughout Atlanta’s neighborhoods, visitors can find many other 7-inch tall doors designed to blend into their surroundings.
