Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) General Manager and CEO Jeffrey Parker has named Atlanta Police Department veteran Scott Kreher as the new Chief of Police and Emergency Management. Chief Kreher will report directly to Chief of System Safety, Security and Emergency Management Wanda Y. Dunham.

“The MARTA system remains one of the safest and most secure in the country and I want to make sure it stays that way,” said GM/CEO Parker. “Chief Kreher’s technical expertise and extensive leadership experience will help guide the MARTA Police Department into the future.”

As a Georgia State undergrad 30 years ago, Chief Kreher knew law enforcement was his passion. From his first assignment as a Zone 3 patrol officer to his work as Deputy Chief ensuring the safety of the city during large-scale events, he has held positions of increasing responsibility since joining the Atlanta Police Department in 1993.

“In his 27-year career in Atlanta law enforcement, Chief Kreher has worked alongside the MARTA Police Department during events such as the ’96 Olympics and most recently Super Bowl LIII,” said Chief Dunham. “His law enforcement experience, dedication to safety and security, and commitment to treating everyone with dignity and respect are unparalleled. I’m proud to welcome Chief Kreher to the Department.”

Chief Kreher served as commander of several units in the Atlanta Police Department, including the Support Services and Contingency Operations Divisions, Night Watch, and Vice Unit. He also worked to combat street-level drug operations and human trafficking, investigate robbery and major fraud, and as a supervisor in the criminal investigations and fugitive task force divisions.

Chief Kreher served in the U.S. Navy and earned a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia State University. He enjoys being a part-time instructor in Georgia State’s Criminal Justice Department and prides himself on providing safety to all those he swore an oath to protect. His first day with the MARTA Police Department is March 9.
