Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms joined leading mayors from across the country to participate in the United States Conference of Mayors Winter Leadership Meeting. Mayor Bottoms led sessions throughout the meeting on the 2020 Census, Community Reinvestment Act and Fair Housing.

“Given the current climate in Washington, the importance of these discussions on opportunity—among municipal leaders from all political and geographic backgrounds—cannot be overstated,” said Mayor Bottoms. “Whether ensuring access to affordable housing or an accurate count for the upcoming Census, every city and each of its residents are stakeholders in an equitable and prosperous future for this nation.”

As Chair of the Census Task Force, Mayor Bottoms led the “Creative Ideas for Getting to a Full and Accurate Count” panel discussion, and was joined by Mayor Sylvester Turner, (Houston, Texas) and Mayor Bryan K. Barnett, (Rochester Hills, Michigan).

As Chair of the Community Development and Housing Standing Committee, Mayor Bottoms led the “Threats to the Fair Housing Act” discussion as the only Mayoral presenter.

Mayor Bottoms facilitated the “Challenges to the CRA (Community Reinvestment Act)” discussion, offering a candid conversation among the Mayors on ensuring fair access to affordable housing and lines of credit for low and moderate-income communities.

The United States Conference of Mayors Winter Leadership Meeting is an annual convening of elected officials dedicated to strengthening the priorities of the United States Conference of Mayors’ mission. This meeting is open to only a select group of appointed U.S. Conference of Mayors Leadership Mayors.
