Friday, February 21st, 2020

Drs. John Moore, John Gouldman and Shady Eldaif are pleased to welcome Dr. G. Andrew Helms to Atlanta Cardiac and Thoracic Surgical Associates’ (ACTSA) office in Canton. Dr. Helms is a board-certified thoracic surgeon with over a decade of extensive experience performing minimally invasive thoracoscopic procedures including, lung resections, decortications, as well as robotic-assisted mediastinal surgery and esophagectomies. He specializes in treating patients with lung cancer, empyemas, spontaneous pneumothorax and malignant pleural effusions.

Although ACTSA has had a location in Canton for several years, patients have had to go to Northside Hospital’s Atlanta campus for surgery. The addition of Dr. Helms marks the first time thoracic surgery will be performed at Northside Hospital Cherokee. As a skilled robotic surgeon, Dr. Helms has a special interest in treating patients with lung cancer, thymic malignancies and esophageal cancer.

Spectrum Neurosurgical Specialists join Northside Hospital network in Canton and Cumming

The physicians of Spectrum Neurosurgical Specialists have joined the Northside Hospital network. Drs. Thomas Belknap, Bart MacDonald and Charles Weaver specialize in neuro-oncology, as well as diagnosis and treatment of benign neuro tumors, complex spine issues, robotic surgery, micro neurosurgery and Gamma Knife radiosurgery. They have an existing office at Northside Hospital Forsyth in Cumming and have opened a brand new office on the campus of Northside Hospital Cherokee in Canton.

All three experts are dedicated to providing their patients with high quality, patient-focused care. To them, patient-focused care means concern for the comfort and convenience of patients and their caregivers

“I care for all of my patients as if I am treating one of my own family members,” said Dr. Belknap. “Seeing a patient get relief of pain or improvement in neurologic function brings me immense satisfaction.”

Dr. Weaver agrees. “What I enjoy most about seeing patients every day is engaging with them and their families on an individual level, guiding them through treatment decisions, treatment and recovery,” he said.

For Georgia-native and Forsyth County High School graduate Dr. MacDonald, his passion for brain tumors came about while serving as a caregiver for his father after a brain tumor diagnosis.

“I feel that I have a unique perspective with my father’s illness to understand what the patient and the family is feeling and the anxiety that neurosurgical problems generate,” said Dr. MacDonald. “By applying the training that I have accumulated over the years, I can take that knowledge of the patient and give understanding to specific problems with solid direction and guidance for outcomes.”

Spectrum Neurosurgical Specialists are part of the larger Northside Hospital Network, which means that patients have access to the latest imaging technology, as well as minimally-invasive surgical options, if needed.
