Atlanta Public Schools Closed at Least Through Monday, April 13th, District Asks Parents Needing an Electronic Device to Call
Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO
Wednesday, March 25th, 2020
Atlanta Public Schools (APS) announced that given recent guidance from health officials and governmental actions from various elected officials, the District will remain closed at least through Monday, April 13 and possibly beyond in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Additionally, District officials are working hard to ensure APS students have devices as a part of its teleschooling initiative. This school year, APS distributed more than 7,500 iPads to 1st and 2nd graders as part of the Tablet2Read program and over 8,000 laptops to nearly all students in grades 6-8. That made APS “1-to-1” at those grade levels.
As a result of the closure of our schools in response to COVID-19, it is necessary to distribute many more devices that are normally used in classrooms every day in order to put computers in the hands of our most vulnerable students. If your child needs a device and you have not heard from your child’s school, please contact the school directly.
