Wellstar Health System Welcomes Babies to the World on Leap Day

Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2020

Every day that babies are born at Wellstar Health System is a reason to jump for joy, but one day every four years, we have a reason to leap. Wellstar Health System welcomed Leap Day babies on Feb. 29, 2020, in five of its hospitals.

Wellstar has labor and delivery units in seven of its eleven hospitals across the system and the hospitals that delivered the leapling newborns include Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center, Wellstar Cobb Hospital, Wellstar Douglas Hospital, Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center, and Wellstar North Fulton Hospital.

“At Wellstar, we not only deliver babies, we deliver more than healthcare. Being part of this important time in the lives of families is one of the most rewarding jobs for team members in our health system,” said Samantha Griner, AVP of Women’s Health. “We are thankful for the opportunity to help bring these precious leapers of 2020 into the world, and we wish them and their families a wonderful life full of love and adventure.”

Nearly 12,000 babies are born at Wellstar hospitals each year. Every day, our team of 24,000+ healthcare professionals provides personalized care for patients at every age and stage of life, including our tiniest patients.

The books are provided through a partnership with the Rotary Club of Marietta, Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center and Rotary Clubs of Smyrna and Atlanta-Brasil.

In addition, Wellstar Douglas Hospital has partnered with the Douglas County School System to spread literacy to the community’s newest arrivals. One thousand copies of the bestselling children’s classic “Love You Forever” by Robert Munsch have been donated to the hospital which will distribute a copy of the book to each newborn. The book donations are made possible through a grant from the Georgia Department of Education.
