Georgia State University Names Dean of the Byrdine F. Lewis College of Nursing and Health Professions

Huanbiao Mo, professor and interim dean of the Byrdine F. Lewis College of Nursing and Health Professions, has been appointed dean of the college, effective July.
“As interim dean of the Lewis College, he has advanced its well-earned reputation for excellence in preparing the next generation of health professionals and scholars,” said Georgia State Provost Wendy Hensel in announcing the appointment.
During his tenure as interim dean, Mo formed a partnerships committee to strengthen relationships among the Lewis College and numerous healthcare facilities who accept students for clinical placement. He also created a research council to help support research activities.
Mo was previously chair of the Department of Nutrition. He also holds a joint appointment as professor in the Department of Chemistry. Mo is an associate member of the Center for Neuroinflammation and Cardiometabolic Diseases, the Center for Diagnostics and Therapeutics, and the Neuroscience Institute, as well as an affiliate member of the Gerontology Institute.
Mo was chair for the Diet and Cancer Research Interest Section and co-chair of the China Interest Group of the American Society for Nutrition and has served on the editorial board of several peer-reviewed journals, including his current role as associate editor of the journal Nutrition & Metabolism.
Mo came to Georgia State as a department chair from Texas Woman’s University, where he was a professor of nutrition and food sciences. He has held adjunct and visiting appointments at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Wenzhou Medical University in China, University Technology MARA in Malaysia and the University of California-Los Angeles.
Mo received a Ph.D. in nutritional sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a master of science degree from the Chinese Academy of Science and a bachelor of science degree from Fudan University in Shanghai, China.
