This Week Kicks Off Atlanta Jazz Festival's First Full Week of Virtual Jazz Performances

Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO

Tuesday, May 5th, 2020

With more than 2,500 views each night, the first weekend of the Atlanta Jazz Festival Sessions, with the Phil Davis Quartet, the Mike Burton Quartet and Joe Gransden and Kenny Banks Sr. duo, was a great success.

The Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs traditionally celebrates 31 Days of Jazz in May with live jazz events across metro Atlanta leading up to the annual festival in Piedmont Park over Memorial Day weekend. With the public’s health and safety in mind, the festival has been postponed to a date that will be announced later and the 31 Days of Jazz has gone digital with newly recorded performances airing on the Atlanta Jazz Festival’s Facebook page nightly at 9 p.m.

Each week, the Atlanta Jazz Festival will announce the schedule of talented Atlanta jazz performers who will be entertaining jazz lovers in the comfort of their own homes. The May 4 – May 10 lineup includes:

Monday, May 4 – “To What Extent” featuring Gary Motley and Billy Thornton

Tuesday, May 5 – Kenny Banks, Jr. and Friends

Wednesday, May 6 – The Myrna Clayton Experience

Thursday, May 7 – Jeff Sparks and Friends

Friday, May 8 – Ryan Killgore featuring RMB

Saturday, May 9 – EQ and DE

Sunday, May 10 – Mother’s Day Sessions featuring Brenda Nicole Moorer with Kenny Banks, Jr.

The performances will be posted at 9 p.m. on the Atlanta Jazz Festival’s and Jazz Times Magazine’s Facebook pages and will also be made available on the Atlanta Jazz Festival website. Atlanta Jazz Festival would also like to thank the Atlanta Music Project and PNC Bank for their support. Check the AJF website www.atlantafestivals.com frequently for performance updates, the new festival date and other events.
