Atlanta Named Georgia's Most Secure City for Apartment Renters as Holiday Porch Pirate Season Approaches

With the holidays approaching & break-ins and porch piracy expected to rise in Georgia, apartment safety is a top priority. For Georgians, Atlanta's actually one of the safest cities in the country for apartment living. Atlanta's been named Georgia's most secure city for apartment living, and it's also ranked 22nd nationally. 

To uncover and rank the most secure and safe cities for rental apartment living, Vivint analyzed major U.S. cities using FBI property crime data, rent affordability, renter population, and Google search trends related to apartment safety. 

Some key findings: 

  • Atlanta has the 23rd lowest motor vehicle theft rate in the U.S.

  • Atlanta's burglary rate is ranked 43rd in the U.S. 

  • Atlanta has the highest volume of apartment safety related searches on Google in the country.

    • Indicating residents are safety focused and prepared. 

  • Atlanta's arson rate is 33rd in the U.S. 

  • The most secure cities for apartments are Omaha, NE, Tampa, FL, Gilbert, AZ, Cape Coral, FL, and PortStLucie, FL. 

When you're renting in a busy city, feeling safe at home is a big deal. That's why we set out to find the most secure cities in the U.S. for apartment living. To put this ranking together, we looked at four key factors that affect both safety and quality of life: property crime rates, how many people rent, how often people search for apartment security, and average rent prices. We analyzed 94 major cities to uncover which ones offer the best—and worst—mix of safety, affordability, and renter-friendly living.
