Atlanta Opera Opens the Season with La Traviata -- The Most Beloved Opera in the World
Wednesday, October 8th, 2025
The Atlanta Opera, “a powerhouse in the Atlanta arts scene” (ArtsATL), opens its 2025-26 mainstage season with Giuseppe Verdi’s opera La traviata, a heartbreaking tale of love, sacrifice, and society’s judgment. From the instantly recognizable “Libiamo” to the showpiece aria “Sempre libera,” this grand opera tells the story of Violetta, who leaves the life of a courtesan for love, but then must sacrifice that love for family. Whether told in books (Lady of the Camellias), movies (Pretty Woman), or musicals (Moulin Rouge), the idea of two people from very different backgrounds and social arenas falling in love and making it last has captivated audiences throughout the ages.
"We are excited to bring back Francesca Zambello's sumptuous production featuring some of the most dazzling voices of our time — soprano Mané Galoyan, tenor Long Long, and baritone Anthony Clark Owens. Of particular note is the debut of Evan Rogister on the podium. This promises to be a terrific run,” said Tomer Zvulun, The Atlanta Opera’s Carl W. Knobloch Jr. General & Artistic Director.
Performance and Ticket Information
La traviata is scheduled for four performances, on Nov. 8, 11, 14, and 16 (matinee), at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre located at 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30339. Performed in Italian with English supertitles.
Rogister recently served as principal conductor of Washington National Opera and is known as a versatile and eclectic conductor. His talents range from Mozart to Wagner to Terence Blanchard, with performances at elite opera houses around the world. Galoyan, called “magnificently dazzling”, stars as Violetta opposite Long, remembered for “a golden sound,” as Alfredo, the young heir who falls for her. Galoyan, last in The Atlanta Opera’s 2023 production of Don Giovanni, and Long, who sang Rodolfo opposite Gabrielle Reyes in The Atlanta Opera’s 2024 production of La bohème, will be joined by Evans in his house debut. Evans, lauded as “warm-toned, vivacious, and humane” by the San Francisco Chronicle, will sing the role of Giorgio Germont, Alfredo’s father.
