The Community Assistance Center’s (CAC) Broadway Lights Gala raised $480,000. During the gala, CAC announced the launch of its three-year Compassion in Action comprehensive fundraising campaign.

With a goal of raising $18 million, the campaign will address growing community needs while expanding CAC’s programs and operational capacity. Including proceeds from the gala, $3 million has already been committed toward this effort.

Held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Crowne Plaza Atlanta Perimeter at Ravinia, the gala drew a record-breaking crowd of nearly 400 community members and leaders. Guests enjoyed a show-stopping medley of Broadway classics performed by the City Springs Theatre Conservatory, along with live and silent auctions and a paddle raise.

Event Co-Chairs were Arjé McCarty and Dana Wexler. Mercedes-Benz USA served as the Presenting Sponsor. The Compassion in Action Campaign is led by a Co-Chair Committee comprised of Gene Barnes, Jan Beaves, Tom Bever, Richard DuBow, Mark Estes, Terry Hartigan, Doug Hunter, Gail and John Jokerst, Catherine Lautenbacher, Bianca Mazzarella, Beth Robertson, Zach Solomon, Van Westmoreland, Cece Webster and Loretta Zimmermann.

“Our community leaders, supporters, volunteers, and advocates came together for an incredible evening of inspiration, celebration and generosity,” said George Northrop, CAC Director of Development. “The funds raised will enable CAC to expand its capacity to serve more people in more ways now and for years to come.”

CAC takes a holistic approach to preventing hunger and homelessness while empowering families to achieve financial stability. Programs include food, clothing, and financial assistance, youth programs, adult education, career assistance services and free
tax assistance.

The Compassion in Action campaign launches at a pivotal time for families in Sandy Springs and Dunwoody, where many face housing instability, food insecurity, job loss and unexpected crises that threaten financial independence.

“We are here because the need is here and it continues to grow,” said Francis Horton III, CAC CEO, during his opening remarks at the gala. “No one should have to choose between paying rent and feeding their children. Yet the number of families facing that choice is increasing, and CAC must grow to meet the need.”

In 2024, CAC assisted nearly 10,000 individuals, distributed approximately one million pounds of food and helped prevent more than 1,000 evictions.

"The outpouring of support at this year’s gala shows the power of our community,” said Doug Hunter, CAC Board Chair and Executive VIce President, Holder Construction. “With the Compassion in Action campaign, we will serve 30% more individuals over the next three years, helping families move beyond crisis toward long-term stability."
