Friday, October 17th, 2025
Today, Thriving Together Atlanta, a collaborative effort between the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, the National Black Arts Festival, and Out of Hand Theater, unveiled its second mural as a part of a series of public art events designed to bring Atlantans together to promote change and address public health disparities head-on. Muralist Chloe Alexander presented a design that deeply resonates with the community's voices, shared experiences, and aspirations for the future.
“Participating in the Thriving Together Atlanta mural project has been such an honor, as it allowed me to contribute to the community that has deeply influenced Atlanta’s cultural identity,” said Alexander. “This mural is an opportunity to celebrate resilience and the importance of caring for one’s community. I’m grateful to create a work that honors the contributions of past, present, and future community members, while also hoping it inspires connection, healing, and a sense of shared responsibility for one another’s health and well-being.”
The mural project is part of Thriving Together Atlanta’s work to inspire action and build partnerships that will create positive changes that prioritize addressing health disparities to improve the health outcomes for everyone in the city. The collaborative effort also seeks to help Atlantans fully understand the health disparities affecting Atlanta by critically examining the historical context and root causes of health disparities.
“This mural commission demonstrates the creative brilliance, collective power, and spirit of resilience that exists in the West End and throughout our entire city,” said Mayor Andre Dickens. “The Thriving Together Atlanta public art project serves as a reminder of our shared commitment as Atlantans to discuss the work we can do together to ensure our city thrives now and well into the future.”
West End residents selected Alexander to complete the mural for their community, which incorporates layered imagery and bold patterns that reflect the neighborhood's culture and history, serving as a powerful reminder of the collective strength needed to achieve health, safety, and victory. Alexander, whose printmaking techniques have earned recognition, including the Parent Artist Award at Kala Art Institute and exhibitions at Harvard Museums and the Museum of Fine Art in Boston, brought her distinctive approach to the community's vision.
Atlanta residents can continue experiencing interactive art events this fall, including the mobile art experience powered by NEXT Atlanta and upcoming Equitable Dinners. The first mural, Old 4th, Forward to Victory, can be visited at 455 North Ave NE in Historic Old Fourth Ward. For more information about other events across the city, visit here.
