On April 8, senior and at-risk Metro Atlanta Kroger shoppers were greeted with a surprise at the register. An anonymous angel, later revealed as Atlanta’s own Tyler Perry, had picked up their grocery tab.
 
Kroger’s Atlanta Division today announced it has matched Perry’s donation.
 
“Tyler Perry’s generosity has inspired us all. Anonymous angel donors across the country are following his lead and offering to pick up the grocery tabs for others,” said Felix Turner, manager of corporate affairs for Kroger’s Atlanta Division. “In keeping with this spirit of giving, Kroger has matched Tyler Perry’s donation, which will help bring both food and joy to individuals and families across Atlanta.”
 
Kroger’s Atlanta Division is also making it easy for customers to support COVID-19 relief initiatives. Kroger customers can now round up their purchase to the nearest dollar and/or make select donations of $1, $5 and $10 at checkout to support Kroger’s Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation Emergency COVID-19 Response Fund.
 
In March, The Kroger Co. Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation, 501(c)(3) public charity, committed $3 million equally distributed between the Foundation’s nonprofit partners, Feeding America and No Kid Hungry. This funding will not only support local food banks nationwide, but also fund initiatives that ensure children, whose schools may be closed, still have access to nutritious meals.
